The police department has been nationally recognized by the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for their high standards identified in the areas of life, health and safety. Additionally, Highland Heights is part of the Mayfield School district which has performed consistently as one of America's Most Challenging High Schools by the Washington Post and one of America's Best High Schools by U.S. News and World Report. The Ohio Department of Education has consistently ranked this school system as Excellent and Excellent with Distinction.
